January 19, (THEWILL) – Tunisia’s camp at the Africa Cup of Nations has been infected with COVID-19, and the Tunisian Football Federation said on Wednesday that up to seven players could miss their last group game against Gambia on Thursday.
Tunisia, who have three points from two games, would need at least one more to qualify for the last 16, if not as one of the top two teams in Group F, then as one of the four best third-place finishers.
Wahbi Khazri, who scored twice in Sunday’s 4-0 triumph over Mauritania, is the most recent player to test positive.
Replacements Mohamed Amine Ben Hamida, Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, Aymen Dahmen, and Ali Jemal are all certain to miss out, as are Ghailane Chaalali and Ali Maaloul, who also excelled on Sunday.
Tunisia, on the other hand, got a boost when Dylan Bronn, Mohamed Drager, and Naim Sliti returned negative tests and were released from isolation, according to a spokeswoman.
