BEVERLY HILLS, August 30, (THEWILL) – The Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals have issued a 15-day strike notice to the Federal Government over failure to correct errors and omissions in the payment of 3 months Covid-19 hazard allowance among other issues.
In a letter signed by JOHESU National Chairman and other executives and addressed to the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire with copies to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the health workers say the 15-day ultimatum which starts from Sunday, August 30 is among others, to push for payment of all withheld salaries, including those of April and May 2018.
The letter warns that against the wish of health workers to cripple the sector, especially at a time when the country is fighting Covid-19 pandemic, an indefinite and total strike will begin from midnight of September 13, 2020, should the government continue to turn deaf ears to their demands.
JOHESU is demanding also the adjustment of Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS as was done with Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMES5 for doctors since 2014.
The workers are equally calling for immediate implementation of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria Alternative Dispute Resolution Consent judgement and other court pronouncements.
The letter read in parts that “…You will recall that until the time of writing this letter, the Federal Government has not deemed it fit to honour the Terms of Settlement entered into with JOHESU on 30 September 2017, especially the upward review of CONHESS Salary Structure as agreed, to be completed within five weeks from the date of agreement amongst other requests. This is both distasteful and condemnable because it is three whooping years, after the conclusion of this agreement…”
