SAN FRANCISCO, March 09, (THEWILL) -Preparations for the first annual Calabar Jazz Festival scheduled to hold from March 29-31 have begun in earnest.
It is being organised by Destination Cross River – Nigeria’s strongest tourist brand, and already well known for world famous Calabar Festival, the biggest event of its kind in Africa, A statement from the organisers of the Jazz Festival issued ,Saturday, said the decision to make the Calabar Jazz Festival an annual event over a long holiday weekend, is a direct result of the success of the jazz concerts held during the Calabar Festival, and the demand from the more discerning consumer for a jazz event in a more intimate setting.
“This event is designed to provide the ideal Easter weekend getaway and to realistically ensure that it is a permanent feature in the social calendar. First-timers to Calabar also get to have an experience that will literally take their breath away. The ancient city of Calabar with its undulating landscape, historically significant as the first capital city of Nigeria, is the cleanest, greenest and safest capital in Nigeria,” the statement said.
“For this Easter weekend, in addition to concerts featuring national and international stars, we will also provide fun day-time activities and tours for all the family; fabulous VIP after-parties, including an intimate reception hosted by His Excellency Governor Liyel Imoke; and, of course, an opportunity to sample some of the local delicacies which has caused Calabar to be acclaimed the best kitchen in the country!”
Accordingly, the three-day event will feature live performances from D’Angelo, Asa, Bez and Darey on March 29 at The Cultural Centre while the concert for March 30 will feature Eric Benet, Jonathan Butler and Burna boy also at The Cultural Centre. “Darey, Bez, Burna Boy are on the line for the last day of this festival being the 31st of March and will take place at Millennium Park. Sub events include cocktails, concerts, concerts, after-parties, tours, pool party, Governor’s VIP BBQ, special kids events like go-carting, etc,” the statement added.
