October 08, (THEWILL) – After losing to Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Atletico Madrid returned to winning in La Liga with a 2-1 victory over Girona 2-1 courtesy of an Angel Correa brace.
Four days after losing 2-0 to surprise package Club Brugge on Tuesday, Atleti triumphed in LaLiga at the Civitas Metropolitano.
Antoine Griezmann, who played right away after Barcelona manager Xavi claimed an agreement had been struck over a permanent deal for the France international, set up Correa for the opening goal of his second LaLiga start of the season.
While loanee Rodrigo Riquelme scored a goal against his parent club thanks to a Juan Carlos error, Diego Simeone’s team managed to hold on for the victory with the help of sensational goalkeeping from Jan Oblak.
In four days, Atletico Madrid will play again when they host Club Brugge in the UCL and then clash with Athletic Bilbao away the following Saturday. Girona has a free midweek but will take on Cadiz on Saturday.
