SAN FRANCISCO, March 23, (THEWILL) – German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has undergone self-isolation after a doctor she had contact with tested positive for Coronavirus.
Merkel said she would isolate herself at home effective immediately after learning that a doctor who vaccinated her against pneumonia on Friday was infected, her office said in a statement.
The chancellor will be tested regularly in coming days while carrying out her duties from home.
German authorities have also barred any gathering with two or more people in one of the strictest regimens seen in the world yet.
The new rules will be in place for at least two weeks and it was necessitated by the increase in the fatality rate of the virus which has now infected over 300,000 and killed over 13,000 people in the world.

Confirmed cases in Germany had risen to over 23,900 with deaths recorded to be above 90.
“The coronavirus is spreading with worrying speed through our country,” Ms. Merkel said in a televised news conference on Sunday.
“Our own behavior,” she said, “is currently the most effective antidote we have: to reduce public life as much as is possible, to reduce contact with people through whom the virus could be transmitted.”
“In short,” she said, “that’s how we save lives.”
The chancellor, a trained scientist, has won wide praise for her calm and transparency during the crisis.
“We have to learn from experts — and from observing reality,” Ms. Merkel told Germans on Sunday.
Recall that the US has since reduced its total number of people that should be seen in a gathering to 10 to curb the spread of the virus.i
