Controversy As INEC Produces Adeleke’s Certificates Before Osun Tribunal

December 01, (THEWILL) – In compliance with the order issued by Justice Tertsea Kume, chairman of the Osun Election Petitions Tribunal, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, produced Form CF001, containing WAEC-GCE certificate and Secondary School Testimonial of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The tribunal, on November 25, ordered the National Chairman of INEC to produce before it, Form CF001.

The documents were presented before the tribunal by the Council’s Deputy Director, Mrs Joan Arabs.

However, Lateef Fagbemi, Counsel to the petitioners (APC and Gboyega Oyetola), who examined the two-paged document, informed the tribunal that the Form CF001 was not legible enough to prosecute his case.

Fagbemi pointed out that they paid N305,000 for the documents and that the first document, West African Examination Council (WAEC) – General Certificate of Examination (GCE), does not have any result details on it and that only the signature at the bottom was legible.

Stating his objection to the INEC documents, Fagbemi noted that the School Testimonial, obtained from Ede Muslim Grammar School by Adeleke, does not have the address or location of the school on it.

The tribunal upheld the objection of the petitioners and ruled that the INEC had not fully complied with its order to produce Form CF001. It ordered the Electoral Commission to produce a clearer and readable copies of the documents.

Lead Counsel to INEC, Prof. Paul Ananaba, thereafter, asked the tribunal to allow it snap the documents in their custody in Abuja and forward same, so that the hearing could go on.

As the hearing continued after an hour and 30 minutes break, Ananaba informed the tribunal that INEC had made the screenshot of the copy of the documents, which he printed and presented to the tribunal.

In its ruling, the tribunal noted that the copies were not better than what the INEC Deputy Director had presented earlier.

While the tribunal had adjourned next hearing to December 3, it ordered INEC to produce clean and clear copies of the original file containing Form CF001.
