June 04, (THEWILL) – Comoros began their quest for a second consecutive TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying with a 2-0 victory over Lesotho in their home opener on Friday.

New coach, Younes Zerdouk, began his term with the Coelacanths with a victory at the Stade Omnisports de Malouzini in Moroni. Following the departure of Amir Abdou, whom he deputised, Zerdouk was chosen to lead the Comoros team.

After a goalless first half, the home side went all out in the second half, and Youssouf M’Changama broke the deadlock after 59 minutes. They maintained their dominance and added another goal nine minutes to the final whistle through Benjaloud Youssouf.

The Lesotho team did not have an answer to the two-goal deficit and coach Veselin Jelusic maintained his lineup apart from an early second half change in his midfield and the introduction of Tumelo Makha just after the hour mark.

Zerdouk’s charges held on to claim all three points and temporarily take early charge of AFCON qualifiers Group H until the results of the late Friday tie between other group teams Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia.
