September 07, (THEWILL) – The village head of Ikot Ebo in Etinan local government area, Akwa Ibom state, Obong Denis Akpan, has expressed his appreciation for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda.

The village head said his community is the highest beneficiary as over 100 years of drainage problems have been solved.

He made this disclosure during a project tour and visit by members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ, Akwa Ibom chapter) as part of activities to mark their 2021 press week.

According to Akpan, the protracted flooding issue has sacked many households, adding that its solution is a thing of joy for the whole community.

“The whole village is happy with Governor Emmanuel, the biggest project ever in a single village. In only four months, the project is almost halfway completed. We owe him our total loyalty, support and trust.

“This problem has been with us for as long as this village has been in existence; over 100 years. Successive administrations in the state have tried but could not salvage the situation.

Many households have been submerged and sacked as a result of flood issue.”

The village head also praised his younger brother, the member representing Etinan State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Denise Akpan, for his dogged approach to the issue since he was elected.

Also at the event was the site engineer, Engr. David Idara. According to him, the drainage project became necessary since the road leading to Ikot Ebo was tied to the Etinan Roundabout, which is on elevated ground and as such caused the depressed section to be flooded during rainy seasons.

“We needed to look for a way to flush out the water that has been disturbing the area for ages. Etinan Bridge was too far and would have cost so much, so we decided on this drainage project.

“There is still so much to be done. Going down a bit, you will notice that the place is submerged so we are going to do fencing to avoid children from falling inside and also avoid people dumping refuse to block the drains. The place is almost three meters deep. It is very deep,” he explained

Over six other ongoing project sites were visited by the team, who noted that work were at top gear to meet the administration’s Completion Agenda.
