BEVERLY HILLS, February 10, (THEWILL) – The finalists for the FIFA Club World Cup qualified on Monday as German football powerhouse Bayern Munich bested Al Ahly of Egypt and Liga MX club Tigres UANL beat Copa Libertadores champions SE Palmeiras. The “best losers” will now have a go at each other for a third place decider.

To officiate this decider is Senegalese referee, Maguette N’Diaye. The 34-year-old was chosen by FIFA to officiate the fixture between Al Ahly and Palmeiras in their struggle for who shall get the consolation of being third or who shall go home empty-handed.

N’Diaye will be assisted by compatriots Djibril Camara and Al-Hadji Samba, while he takes central charge of the game which will be held at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. It will be the first time the two clubs have ever met in a competitive match.

The Egyptians are at the Club World Cup semi-finals for the third time in their history and their loss to reigning European champions Bayern Munich is how they ended up contesting for third place.

The losers’ final is N’Diaye’s second game in charge of the Egyptian team. He was also the officiating referee during Egypt’s encounter against Uganda in the 2019 AFCON group stages. Mario Escobar will complete the set of referees as the fourth official, while the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team will be headed by Canada’s Drew Fischer along with Radwan Jaid of Morocco.

The third-place encounter will kickoff on Thursday, February 11 at 16:00 West African Standard Time.
