Claudio Taffarel Joins Jurgen Klopp’s Staff

November 30, (THEWILL) – Claudio Taffarel, the renowned Brazilian goalkeeper, is expected to join Liverpool’s coaching staff.

The decision was reportedly influenced by Alisson’s positive recommendation.

Taffarel was a well-known goalkeeper throughout the 1990s, having played for clubs such as Parma, Reggiana, and Galatasaray. During this time, though, he was best known for being Brazil’s number one goalkeeper.

Taffarel is renowned for saving Daniele Massaro’s penalty kick in the 1994 World Cup final, which enabled his side beat Italy in a penalty shootout.

He also won the Copa America in 1989 and 1997, and has worked as a coach since retiring in 2003, including two temporary spells at Galatasaray.

Taffarel has already worked with Reds goalkeeper Alisson at international level, and Alisson’s rave reports helped persuade the Merseyside team to recruit the goalkeeping coach.

Taffarel will work alongside current Liverpool goalkeeping instructors John Achterberg and Jack Robinson.
