November 05, (THEWILL) – Cyriel Dessers, a Nigerian international, was the hero for Feyenoord in their UEFA Europa Conference League encounter against Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, scoring the game-winning goal.
Dessers came off the bench to score the game-winning goal in the derby against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, and he did it again against their Bundesliga opponents on Thursday night, who featured attacking star Taiwo Awoniyi.
Luis Sinisterra’s left-footed drive from the left side of the six-yard box found its way into the net to break the deadlock in the 15th minute.
However, four minutes before halftime, Christopher Trimmel equalised. From an assist by Puchacz, Trimmel had his direction on target as he hit his shot from outside the box to the top right corner, beating the reach of Feyenoord keeper, Justin Bijlow.
After losing the reverse fixture two weeks ago, the home side, who had Awoniyi before he was subbed out in the 59th minute, needed the win.
However, it was the visitors who came away with the win, as Dessers scored in the 72nd minute, only eight minutes after coming on as a substitute.
