Chelsea Could Break Defender Transfer Record In Chase Of Leicester’s Fofana

August 09, (THEWILL) – English Premier League side, Chelsea, is set to make a record-breaking offer for French defender, Wesley Fofana, of Leicester City.

This summer, the Blues have become short of options at their backline after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to the La Liga duo of Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, and Thomas Tuchel is looking to strengthen the weak parts of their squad before the transfer season closes next month.

The Todd Boehly modus operandi has helped to get Kalidou Koulibaly in from the Serie A club, Napoli, at about £35 million to bolster the Stamford Bridge defence but, the Blues are anxious to expand their centre backfield with an offer that would be the largest sum ever paid for a defender.

The Foxes had turned down an earlier offer from Chelsea, which is thought to have been around £70 million and have continued to insist that Fofana is not for sale, but Chelsea are of the opinion that they can get him from the grip of Leicester for the right price and will up their bid to a price the Foxes can do business with.

At the moment, the most expensive defender is Harry Maguire, who Manchester United also acquired from Leicester for £80 million.
