BEVERLY HILLS, February 22, (THEWILL) – Nigerian rapper, Sodiq Yusuf better known as CDQ, has slammed organisers of the Headies award for awarding the “Best Street-Hop Artiste” category to Mayorkun over Naira Marley.
THEWILL writes that Mayorkun had defeated Naira Marley’s “Mafo” to clinch the category with his 2020 hit single, “Geng” at the event held on Sunday.
Others in the category include: Reminisce, Paul Okoye, Ivd & Zlatan as well as Olamide.
The declaration of Mayorkun as the winner of the category has continued to spark social media reactions as many argued that Naira Marley should have taken the award home.
Joining the fray, CDQ took to his Twitter handle to accuse the organisers of the award show of “industry politics,” saying that that there was no way Mayorkun would have been declared the winner based on merit.
He wrote: “Headies una don start dis una obvious industry politics thinfo again… How the hell una go carry Best Street Hop give someone else at the expense of Naira this year and conscience no judge unah.”
