Cardiff City Fires Mick McCarthy After Eighth Straight Loss

October 23, (THEWILL) – Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy has been sacked following eight consecutive defeats and 21st place on the Championship table.

The sack came after Bluebirds hero Neil Warnock returned to his old haunts on Saturday to inflict a 2-0 defeat on Cardiff City.

During the Bluebirds’ eight-game losing streak, they only scored one goal while conceding 19.

Steve Morison, the manager of the Under-23s, will take temporary charge alongside his assistant Tom Ramasut. Cardiff will be led by the pair for the next three games (Stoke City, QPR, and Huddersfield Town) before the international break.

An official statement from Cardiff to that effect read: “Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that First Team Manager Mick McCarthy and Assistant Manager Terry Connor have left the Club by mutual agreement and with immediate effect.

“We would like to thank Mick and Terry for their efforts during their time with the Bluebirds and wish them all the best for the future. Steve Morison and Tom Ramasut will oversee first-team duties at this time, as the Board of Directors begin the process of appointing a permanent replacement.”

Saturday’s loss was also the first time in the club’s history that they had lost six consecutive home games in all competitions.

McCarthy’s reign began in spectacular fashion, with the coach winning all 11 games he oversaw after taking over in January. After defeating Bournemouth last season, Cardiff City made it into the play-off places, albeit for a short time.

This club has looked like a shell of its old self this season after a massive player turnover in the summer. They never got out of first gear, and McCarthy’s job became untenable.
