Cameroun Shuts All Borders With Nigeria

SAN FRANCISCO, August 20, (THEWILL) – Cameroun has closed all its borders with Nigeria in a bid to halt the spread of the Ebola virus, state radio said on Tuesday.

“The government has taken the decision to protect its population because it is much better to prevent than cure the Ebola virus,” Minister of Communications and government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary told Reuters.

The Ebola virus has killed five persons in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic and financial hub, while 5 new cases were recorded Tuesday bringing the total number of cases to 12 in the city since the disease arrived Lagos from Monrovia through a Liberian-American man, Patrick Sawyer, who died four days later at an isolation unit of the Mainland Hospital in Yaba Lagos.

Sawyer had contracted the disease from his sister and had flown to Nigeria knowing he was infected.
