May 19, (THEWILL) – Everton secured their English Premier League survival after snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in a hard-fought comeback 3-2 victory against Crystal Palace.

Jean-Philippe Mateta nodded in from close range to put the visitors up 1-0 in the 21st minute before a spate of defensive blunders allowed Jordan Ayew tap in a second on the goal-line of Everton.

As the hosts began their fightback, a free-kick by Richarlison hit the crossbar. It may not have gone in, but it was a sign of things to come from Everton, who were a different team altogether after the break.

Richarlison took advantage of Joachim Andersen’s failed clearance to level the scores after Michael Keane had scored to inspire the comeback with a great strike. A diving header was all that was needed to turn in Gray’s free-kick to score and Calvert-Lewin obliged to take all three points.

Everton can now relax ahead of their final game of the season against Arsenal, knowing that neither Leeds United nor Burnley can catch them. Palace, on the other hand, misses out on a chance to climb into the top half of the table. They are still in 13th place heading into their match against Manchester United.
