November 19, (THEWILL) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Friday congratulated the African nations that advanced to the playoff stage of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Qatar 2022.

The governing body went on to reveal that the dates for the continental play-offs draw will be announced after next week’s CAF Executive Committee meeting in Cairo. The teams will be seeded based on the FIFA ranking.

The executive committee meeting will take place on November 25 on the eve of the extraordinary CAF general assembly, which will also take place in Cairo on November 26.

Ten African national teams qualified for the World Cup playoffs and will be pitted against one another to determine the last five nations, who will represent the continent in Qatar.

Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo qualified for the second round, all advancing as group leaders in the first round of qualifiers.

In that first stage, teams like Senegal, Algeria, Morocco, Mali, and Egypt topped their groups without losing any of their six matches, while the remaining sides advanced even after taking some losses.

Nigeria needed to avoid losing their final Group C game to advance and did exactly that with a 1-1 home draw against Cape Verde in Lagos on Tuesday. The Super Eagles will be hoping to go through the playoffs for their sixth showing at the world’s biggest soccer tournament.
