CAF Reveals Dates, Times For AFCON, FIFA Draws

January 17, (THEWILL) – The dates and times for the next TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African Qualifiers draws have been confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The preliminary round draw for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 will take place in Douala on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 4 pm local time (15h00 GMT, 17h00 CAT).

The African Qualifiers Third Round draw for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will take place on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 4 pm at the same site in Douala. (15:30 GMT/17:30 CAT)

The broadcast for both draws will be live on CAF platforms.

In the preliminaries of AFCON Cote d’Ivoire 2023, the 12 lowest-ranked teams will compete. Two levels will be established for the 12 teams. The top six teams in the standings will face the bottom six teams in the standings (the 1st leg will be played at home of the lower ranked teams).

The six aggregate winners will compete in the Group Stage of the qualifications alongside the top 42 teams.

Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Gambia, South Sudan, and Mauritius are on Level 1, while Chad, Sao Tome and Principe, Djibouti, Somalia, Seychelles, and Eritrea are on Level 2.

For the FIFA draws, based on the official FIFA ranking, revealed after the last round on November 19, 2021, the ten qualified teams will be divided into two levels.

As previously reported by THEWILL, the top five clubs in the standings will face the bottom five teams with the first leg played at home of the lower ranked teams.

The distribution of the teams in the two pots will be as follows:

Pot 1: Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Nigeria are on level one.

Pot 2: Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
