BEVERLY HILLS, May 07, (THEWILL) – Africa’s football governing body, CAF, has announced that on Monday, May 10, at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, it would conduct the draw for the qualifiers of the TOTAL Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by the North African country of Morocco next year.
CAF plans the draw to be live from 13:00 Cairo time, which translates to 12 noon, local time on Monday, next week.
Similar to the men’s tournament, at the Morocco 2022 TOTAL Women’s AFCON, Africa’s best senior women’s national football teams will go head-to-head to slug it out on the field of play all the way to the final trophy, where only the the best of the lot will triumph.
However, there is the added incentive for victory as the women’s AFCON will serve the dual purpose of being a qualifier for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Monday event at CAF’s Cairo HQ will also used to conduct two other draws: the African Qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 and the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022.
CAF proposes to beam the draws live on all the continental body’s digital platforms as it has proscribed in-person attendance by members of the media due to COVID-19 protocols.
