SAN FRANCISCO, January 06, (THEWILL) – The Governance Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) met between January 5 and 6, 2021, to study submitted applications for some open positions in the Confederation. These positions include those of the CAF President, members of the CAF Executive Committee and African members of the FIFA Council.
After all due diligence has been conducted on the submitted applications, the final list of candidates eligible for the various ballots will be made public on Monday, January 11.
This adheres to the electoral process which was launched on Thursday, September 10, 2020 after the virtual Executive Committee meeting, in accordance with CAF statutes.
As at the 12 November, 2020 deadline for the submission of candidatures, the CAF General Secretariat had received five applications for the position of CAF President.
The Governance Committee, an independent body of CAF, chaired by Ivorian Michel Brizoua-Bi, will screen the applications to examine the eligibility of those five candidates who beat the deadline.
The peak of the electoral process is the stage that succeeds the publication of the list of eligible candidates. This will take place on Friday, March 12, 2021, in the 43rd CAF Elective General Assembly scheduled in Morocco, the stage for the elections proper.
