CAF Adjusts AFCON Qualifiers To Allow African Teams Focus On World Cup

July 31, (THEWILL) – A new TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire qualification schedule has been approved by the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Executive Committee’s commitment to ensuring that the five African nations, who have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 scheduled to take place in November/December this year, have adequate time to prepare ahead of the competition without any distractions, made this decision necessary.

As a result, the September matchday three and matchday four fixtures for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers have been postponed to between March 20-28 next year.

The new dates for matchdays five and six are June 12-20, 2023 and September 4-12, 2023, respectively.
