June 28, (THEWILL) – The 2021 BET Awards, which honours Black excellence in entertainment and sports, was held on Sunday night, the theme, “Year of the Black Woman.”
The show was hosted by popular American award-winning actress, Taraji P. Henson, from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, with a live audience attending for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began.
THEWILL writes that Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, who was nominated alongside Wizkid, clinched the best international act.
American singer and actress, Queen Latifah, received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her “amazing success” throughout her decades-long career.
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby had the most nominations of the night and Megan Thee clinched awards for “Best Female Hip Hop Artist,” “Best Collaboration,” “Viewer’s Choice” and “Video of the Year.”
Late rapper, DMX, who died from a heart attack earlier this year, was honoured at the ceremony as a special tribute performance was rendered in his honour from Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz, and Michael K. Williams.
Also, Late Chadwick Boseman who died after a long battle with cancer clinched the award for ‘Best Actor’.
