February 02, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate, to seek the confirmation of nominees for three government agencies.
THEWILL reports that the three agencies include Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, at the plenary on Wednesday, read the three letters from Buhari, adding that the President cited laws that supported his decision to make the appointments.
Those nominated to be appointed as NERC commissioners are Dr Yusuf Ali (North-Central), Engr Chidi Ike (South-East), Mr Nathan Shetty (North-East), and Mr Dafe Apeneye (South-South) as commissioners of the NERC.
The President also sought the confirmation of Francis Alabi Ogali; Dr Mustapha Lawade; Monsuru Kulia; Bashiru Sadiq, and Dr Zainab Gobir as executive directors of the NMDPRA.
Mrs Emili Chidinma Osuji’s name was contained in a separate letter also sent to the Senate for confirmation as the Executive Director of the NDIC.
However, the Senate President said that the nominees will be screened by the relevant committees before they are confirmed.
Lawan added that the nominations will be referred to the relevant committees of the upper legislative chamber on the next legislative day.
