In his first campaign as one of the Red Devils, Fernandes lifted the trophy, presented by Adidas Football, though he had joined the Old Trafford side in January 2020.

This new crown succeeds that, as fans voted in huge numbers to see him take the individual prize again for 2020/21.

Votes came in from supporters based in over 200 different countries, who all witnessed Fernandes enjoy another remarkable campaign. The prolific midfielder scored 18 times in 36 Premier League starts. Nine goals for him in Europe for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League added to his inspiring displays.

One of his more remarkable outings for United was his masterful free-kick against Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup that won the match for the Red Devils.

Scoring goals side, the 26-year-old contributed 11 assists in the Premier League alone. He added five more in Europe and topped the charts for the most creative and productive midfielder around. All these, including his latest strike against Liverpool, were enough to see him beat Frank Lampard’s goal record for a midfielder in the Premier League era.

The remarkable midfielder, who is also the Reds’ leading scorer and who donned the captain’s armband in Harry Maguire’s absence for the match with Liverpool last week, has seen Fernandes maintain a huge influence in the side that he is definitely a worthy recipient of the honour without question.

Throughout the season, his sterling form has seen Fernandes named Player of the Month in November and December, while enjoying being nominated in October and February also. On 12 different occasions, the classy playmaker was voted Man of the Match. The closest anyone else came to that was Edinson Cavani with five nods.

That made Cavani one of Fernandes’ competition for the award with Luke Shaw being the other. All three have been magnificent in the season United have had but, Bruno was the most consistent and the fans acknowledged that with a very convincing 63 per cent of the votes cast. Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

Last season, the difference between Fernandes and Anthony Martial was much closer as the Portuguese bested the Frenchman by only 1.5 per cent to the prize.
