Brendan Rodgers Wary Of Risking Ndidi For Spartak Moscow Tie

November 04, (THEWILL) – Despite being fit, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers believes Wilfred Ndidi may miss the second leg of their Europa League tie against Spartak Moscow.

The Super Eagles’ midfielder has not featured for Leicester since suffering a hamstring injury in a 2-2 draw with Burnley in September.

Ndidi’s injury was reportedly expected to keep him out until the end of this month’s international break, but he recovered quickly and played in the loss to Arsenal last Saturday.

Despite his return to full health, the former Genk midfielder may well miss the game against Spartak Moscow because Rodgers is wary about pressing him back into full-time regular action.

Rodgers said in his pre-match press conference that he has not determined if the Nigerian international would play, but that he should be fit for the weekend.

“Whether (Ndidi’s) going to be available or not for Thursday to put him in, we’ll see,” Rodgers said. “Certainly, he should be ready by the weekend. He’s trained really well, but we just have to be careful and mindful of the injury he’s coming back from.”

The first leg was played at the Otkrytiye Arena in Russia two weeks ago, and both sides played out an exciting 4-3 tie. After pacing to a two-goal lead, Spartak appeared to be on their way to victory, but Leicester’s impressive Patson Daka scored four times for the Foxes to turn things around.

Spartak must win to go to the next round, but the Foxes could finish first if they win, although that is dependent on the outcome of the other group game between Legia Warsaw and Napoli, where Victor Osimhen was left out of contention as he recovers from his calf contracture.
