Brendan Rodgers Shuts Down Links To Man Utd

November 18, (THEWILL) – The Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, has responded strongly to queries about replacing Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rodgers is one of several candidates being evaluated by the Old Trafford administration to succeed under-fire club legend Solskjaer, who has presided over humiliating home defeats to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in recent weeks.

On Wednesday, it seemed the Leicester manager has emerged as United’s first option, and that if and when they make a bid for him, he will give the Red Devils the green light, with a plan in place behind closed doors for Solskjaer’s successor.

Even if it would be ideal for the Norwegian to finish the season in the dugout, there is a recognition that Solskjaer’s situation is becoming indefensible with each United fixture.

In his pre-match news conference before Saturday’s early kick-off against Chelsea, Rodgers was asked directly about a prospective move to Manchester United, and it appears he was not in the mood to amuse them.

Rodgers did not mince words when he responded: “Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when there is a manager in place at the club. Secondly, I can’t comment on it because it’s not real.

“I’m proud to be here at Leicester City. The only thing I’m thinking about is Chelsea and getting ready for that. It’s frustrating for supporters and my players, but from a personal perspective, it’s something that it’s in the modern game, but something I have no focus on whatsoever.”

Rodgers confirmed his public commitment to Leicester later in his press conference: “My own commitment, I’ve got a huge respect for Khun Top and the protection of his legacy. My relationship with him, Susan Whelan and Jon Rudkin, we’re together and we’re looking to push on.

“I feel I’m in the right place. I work with a calibre of players we’re trying to maximise their potential. That’s why I’m so happy here.”
