BREAKING: Presidential Guards Repel Attack On Buhari’s Convoy In Katsina

July 05, (THEWILL) – Suspected gunmen on Tuesday, attacked and opened fire on the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina, ahead of the president’s visit to the State.

THEWILL reports that Buhari had been scheduled to visit Daura for the Sallah break and an advance team of security guards, protocol and media officers had already arrived in the State.

The attackers opened fire on the convoy while on its way to Daura from ambush positions, but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy

Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.

Reacting to the development, the Presidency in a statement issued on Tuesday night, by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, described the development as sad and unwelcomed.

The statement read: “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcomed, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions, but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered.”

The statement added that all the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.
