BREAKING: Sunny Ade Loses Wife To Cancer, May Affect 75th Birthday

September 18, (THEWILL) – Popular Juju Musician, King Sunny Ade, has lost one of his wives, Hon. Risikat Ajoke Adegeye.

Sources around the music maestro revealed to THEWILL that his wife of about 42 years succumbed to a long battle with cancer.

Ajoke’s death, THEWILL further gathered, has upset grand plans to mark the birthday of Sunny Ade, who clocks 75 on Wednesday, and had concluded arrangements for an earthshaking celebration in his Ondo town.

The former Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly died in the early hours of Tuesday.

Speaking of her over 40 years’ marriage to Sunny Ade, she once told a news medium: “He is a nice man. He is my own darling, amorous husband. We have been happily married now for over 40 years. It’s been over four decades. Our marriage has been blessed with the fruit of the womb. He is not just my husband, he is my father. He has been a generous husband to me. He is my father, my uncle, my mother, he is everything to me. He is somebody that we have been together. For over four decades back without rancour or misunderstanding. Even when we disagree sometimes, we quickly resolve it on the bed, at night. He has been my favourite person on earth. He always wants good things for me.”

Risikat had won her seat was also a former chairmanship aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress,APC, in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, reportedly.

Adegeye, a devoted and loyal party member of the APC, died after a brief sickness.

A statement by Mr. George Folarin Olawande, on behalf of the family on Tuesday, said: “We wish to formally inform, friends, well-wishers, political associates, and the general public that Hon Risikat Ajoke Adegeye passed on after a brief illness during the early hours of Tuesday, 21st September 2021.

“Hon Risikat Ajoke Adegeye was an Honourable Member in the 6th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“She will be greatly missed not only by her immediate family but also by her political associates and followers. Further information in respect to her burial ceremony will be announced later after extensive consultations with the family.

“Thank you as we pray that she continues to rest peacefully and eternally with the Almighty God.”

Adegeye had 2007-2011 won a seat as a Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1.

After her stint in the Legislature, she became a Commissioner representing Badagry in the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission.

She went on to contest in 2017 for the post of Executive Chairman of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, but her ambition did not fly.

Similarly, her aspiration for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2019 hit the rocks.

For her education, Risikat had her primary education at the L.A. Primary School, Agege, Lagos, between 1965-1970.

Thereafter in 1972, she attended St. Timothy’s College Onike Iwaya in Lagos and finished in 1977.
