August 27, (THEWILL) – Bandits have released the remaining abducted pupils of Islamiyya School, Tegina, in Niger State.
“The pupils have all been released. We are now conveying them home. I can’t give you an exact number now. We will have to screen them when we get home. But none of the pupils is in captivity”, Principal of the school, Abubakar Alhassan, told newsmen on Thursday night, adding that the pupils are on their way to Minna from Birnin Gwari.
He did not give any details about how the pupils were released.
But one of the parents, Fati Abdullahi, whose 18-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son were among the captives, confirmed the pupils were free.
Heavily armed bandits had attacked Tegina Islamiyya School, Niger State on May 30, and abducted 136 pupils.
Tegina is located within Rafi Local Government Area of Niger.
One person was shot dead and another critically injured during the attack.
Six of the pupils died in captivity and another 15 escaped in June, according to school officials.
