Borno Legacy House: Govt Pays N540m Compensation

SAN FRANCISCO, July 31, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Government on Wednesday disclosed that it has paid over N540 million as compensation for the land acquired for the construction of the Borno Legacy Housing estate in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zanna Umar Mustapha, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen, saying the Kashim Shettima administration embarked on the building of the estate as “a legacy to this generation and generations yet unborn.”

He disclosed that before the construction of the Legacy House, the space used to be a shanty area occupied by hoodlums, saying the estate which occupies a strategic area along the airport road will now give a face lift to the area.

He added that the government has relocated the trailer park hitherto occupying the place to Jimtilo, as government has completed arrangement for the construction of a new trailer park beside the permanent site of the Borno State University.

“We started with construction of 31 blocks, which was extended to 50 blocks and is expected to house over 300 families when completed. The complex has enough parking spaces, shopping complex, clinic and school,” the deputy governor, who is also the chairman of the Legacy House Construction Committee, said.

Mustapha said so far, about 35 persons have been compensated by the state government, adding that there has not been any complain from anybody so far..
