BEVERLY HILLS, August 12, (THEWILL) – The gale of impeachments spreading across the country has hit Borno State .
Members of the state House of Assembly Tuesday impeached the Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Idrissa Jidda.
Jidda, who is believed to be loyal to former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, was impeached on account of alleged gross misconduct.
He was immediately replaced by Hon. Zakariya Mohammed from Dikwa State Constituency who was elected by majority of the members.
Jidda, who is also Sheriff’s in-law, had told an Abuja-based newspaper a fortnight ago that he was defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with majority of the lawmakers in an attempt to push for the impeachment of the state governor Kashim Shettima.
But the lawmakers dismissed him, saying the House leader, who is representing Ngala constituency, the hometown of former governor Sheriff, was on his own.
He was subsequently impeached by 17 of the 28-members of the Assembly at a special sitting in Maiduguri following a motion by Hon Ali Mamman, Biu State Constituency and Hon Rawa Goni, Gulumba/Woloji State Constituency.
