‘Boko Haram Killed Seven Policemen In Bama’

SAN FRANCISCO, August 07, (THEWILL) – Contrary to the belief that only one policeman was killed in last weekend’s attack by Boko Haram on security facilities in the fishing community of Bama in Borno State, it was gathered that seven policemen actually lost their lives.

Aside the seven policemen who were said to have been slaughtered in the attack ,many others were said to have gone missing.

The military Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in the state, had, on Monday, stated that only one policeman was lost to the attack.

However, speaking on condition of anonymity on Wednesday, a senior public servant told journalists that seven policemen were actually lost to the attack while several others were injured.

He disclosed that five casualties who were critically injured were receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital .

Meanwhile, the Borno State Government has doled out the sum of N250,000 each to the five policemen and three soldiers who sustained injuries during the attacks.

The State deputy governor, Alhaji Zanna Umar Mustapha, who visited the injured at the hospital, handed over the money to them as he wished them a quick recovery.

In another development,the state government on Wednesday gave out food items and textile materials to orphans, widows and less privileged in the state to enable them enjoy the Eid- El- Fitri celebration.

The deputy governor, who presented the items to the beneficiaries at the Government House Maiduguri, said though the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shettima, was in Saudi performing the lesser Hajj, he has shown his concern over the welfare of the masses and directed that the food items be given to them.

He said over 5,000 less privileged persons will benefit from the gift items which included 5,000 cartons of Spaghetti, 5000 units wrapper, 5000 bags of 1kilogramme rice and 5000 bags of Semovita.

The deputy governor said due to the economic situation in which people have found themselves, it is important that government ensures that the less-privileged are happy and celebrate Eid el Fitri with food on their table.

A beneficiary of the largesse, Hajja Falmata, was full of joy as he expressed gratitude to Governor Shettima for the gesture, saying she would not have celebrated the Sallah if not for the items given to her.

Also, Mallam Abubakar Bulama, who benefitted from the largesse, thanked the state government for the gesture as he called on other organisations and well-to-do members of the society to emulate the gesture of the state government.
