BEVERLY HILLS, May 03, (THEWILL) – Former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has described the Nigerian Federation as skewed and distorted and ought to be restructured for equity and fairness to prevail.

George, who was addressing the media in Lagos on Monday, said the Nigerian polity was now straying towards its elastic limit.

He said: “It is now over-stressed and overstretched beyond the bounds of acceptability. Our survival as a nation is genuinely being questioned from the desert to the sea.”

While reading his address at the event that had PDP leaders in Lagos State in attendance and titled, “Nigeria: Time to Chat a New Direction,” George said, “This is time to change the path of old, to look beyond what hobbles our progress, to redefine our value system, to rejig, and the various anomalies that presently hinder the greater possibilities of the Nigerian union.”

He also advised politicians to put people’s interest first, saying politics should be seen as a public service and not as an avenue to amass wealth.

He said the Lagos State Government legislation that sought to shield criminals from being prosecuted by the EFCC was unconstitutional and retrogressive.

George, the Atona Oodua of Yoruba land, further reiterated his call that the two Tollgates at Lekki, Lagos should be pulled down permanently and a monument should be erected in honour of thee young men and women who were martyred at the #EndSARS protests for a better Nigeria.

He chastised the Lagos State House of Assembly, accusing it of failing in her constitutional duties of protecting the welfare and the interests of Lagos

He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to jettison its manual procedure and embrace Electronic Voting System.

George said that Nigeria could be a better place when we all eschewed ethnic jingoism, sectarian bias and crass nepotistic agenda.

“We cannot continue like this. Something must give way. There is no other way. There is no other path. Those who have stripped our collective coffers must face the full wrath of the law as deterrence to others,” he said.
