May 13, (THEWILL) – Former Vice President and 2023 presidential hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has deleted social media posts condemning the killing of a 200-level female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education.

THEWILL had reported that a student, identified as Deborah Samuel Yakubu, was allegedly attacked by a mob over comments considered to be an insult to Prophet Mohammed.

Atiku had taken to Twitter to condemn the act, saying; “There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered, and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends.”

The former Vice-president, however, came under a social media attack as some Muslim northerners threatened not to vote for him if he emerges the Presidential candidate of the PDP. They also promised to mobilise themselves against him.

Some of the critics of the former VP’s position on the matter called him unprinted names for not supporting the punishment for blasphemy as preached by Islam; a religion he identifies with.

Following this, Atiku first deleted the post he made on Facebook and about an hour later, that of Twitter.

In a post on Friday, the former vice-president said he did not authorise the initial post, adding that any post that does not have his initials “A.A” is not from him.

“This evening I received information that a post was made that doesn’t agree with my orders. I use this to announce that any post without AA is not from me. May God protect – AA”, former Vice-President Atiku explained.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Abubakar, has condemned the killing and asked security operatives to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended.

The police said they have arrested two suspects connected to the killing.

“Upon receiving the information, the DC Operations led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders in the state to the school where the road was cleared and the situation was brought under control.

“Two students were arrested in connection with the crime committed. The school has been closed down by the school authority, and policemen were deployed to give tight security coverage”, a statement by the police read.
