Benue Assembly Passes 46 Bills, Proceed On RecessĀ 

April 28, (THEWILL) – Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday, embarked on recess to mark the end of the 3rd sitting of the 3rd legislative session for 2021/2022, of the 9th assembly after passage of 46 bills.
Majority leader of the House, Mr Damian Cheme, who moved a motion to allow the house to proceed on recess, stated that, according to the annual calendar of the business of the house, the 3rd legislative session terminates on 29th of this month and the motion was seconded by Minority Whip, Mr Cephas Dyako.
Addressing the house before the commencement of the recess, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Chris Adaji said, despite the daunting challenges including the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the 9th Assembly has performed well in their legislative responsibilities.
He said, the 8th Assembly passed a total of 58 bills and 46 of such bills, were from the Executive arms, while the remaining 12 were from members of the house.
According to the Deputy Speaker, the 9th assembly on the other hand with the balance of one legislative session to go, has already processed 57 bills, while 46 of the bills so far are executive, of which 11 are initiatives of the assembly members.
“Within the period under review, the 9th assembly passed 46 bills out of the 57 received with 11 bills at various stages of processes; debated 41 reports out of 47 received from the standing committees and debated 4 petitions out of the 17 received from members of the public.”
The Deputy Speaker listed other achievements of the house under review to include, debate on 55 motions, adopted 110 resolutions and 3 parliamentary study tours outside the country, asked 3 parliamentary questions and received answers as well as attended to 39 communications.
He commended the cooperation and support of members and staff of the assembly, which he said have translated to the successes recorded and wish members a sound rest during the recess.
The House is expected to reconvene on the 1st of June this year for the last lap of its tenure of office.
