October 26, (THEWILL) – Barcelona endured a terrible day in Europe as they were ousted from the UEFA Champions League, at the group stage for the second consecutive year even before Bayern Munich beat them 3-0 at home.
The outcome for Barca had already been decided by Inter Milan’s 4-0 victory against Viktoria Plzen, earlier on Wednesday, so there was gloom at Camp Nou from the start of the match, which did not improve as the match progressed.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, in the first half, were followed by another from Benjamin Pavard, who scored the game’s final goal with what was essentially the last kick of the fixture.
With this victory, Bayern who had already advanced from Group C, affirmed their status as group leaders, surpassing Inter and sending Barcelona to the Europa League.
Barcelona returns to La Liga for their next match, where they will heap their frustrations against Valencia away from home on Saturday. The following day in the Bundesliga, Bayern will clash with Mainz.
