Bayern Munich Overwhelm Bremer 12-0

August 26, (THEWILL) – Bavarian heavyweights Bayern Munich completely slaughtered DFB-Pokal opponents Bremer in Wednesday’s fixture as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored four times to see Bayern kickoff the annual German knockout football cup competition with an overly one-sided 12-0 victory.

Bayern had a brace scored by Jamal Musiala to add to goals from Malik Tillman, Leroy Sane, Michael Cuisance, Bouna Sarr and Corentin Tolisso to fully demonstrate the gulf in class between the two sides even though some first team squad players were not included in the Bayern side like Robert Lewandowski.

It did not stop Julian Nagelsmann’s team to put the helpless fifth-division Bremer through the wringer in a breathless attacking sequence especially more and more rampant as the match wore on. It was the most convincing way to ease through to the second round of the competition.

It did not help Bremer that one of their players Ugo Nobile was red-carded in the 77th minute when he pulled back Tillman to deny a goal-scoring opportunity, but it could have made little to no difference as Bayern were already 8-nil up before the sending off of the defender.

It is possible to imagine that Bayern may not have reached a dozen goals if Nobile had remained but it is fair to say Bayern were on a rampage and would have reached double figures still.

Choupo-Moting had an evening to remember. He did not stop at four goals but registered assists for Musiala and Sarr on a miserable day for Bremer. It became Bayern’s second-highest margin of victory in their history after a 1997 16-1 thrashing of Waldberg.

It was 5-0 at half-time, with Choupo-Moting’s hat-trick, Musiala’s strike and Warm’s own goal getting the job done. Just after the break, Tillman scored his first goal for the first team before Musiala added his second a minute later. Choupo-Moting got his fourth, with Sane, Cuisance, Sarr and Tolisso rounding out the scoring.

Coach Nagelsmann reshuffled the squad to field a much-changed team which still thoroughly flogged Bremer. Bayern were on the front foot from the very start and dispatched the side with little difficulty to progress to the second round of the competition for the 27th consecutive time.

It was only in August 1994 that, for the last time in their history, Bayern fell at the first hurdle, going down 1-0 against third-tier Vestenbergsgreuth and did not progress any further.

On Saturday, Bayern return to Bundesliga action as they welcome Hertha Berlin to the Allianz Arena, while Bremer travel to Leher in the Bremen-Liga next Thursday.
