Bauchi Poly Engineer Killed

September 04, (THEWILL) – A senior staffer of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Engr. Abubakar Muhammad, has been killed by gunmen.

The assailants stormed the deceased’s residence located at Birshin Fulani area, in the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis, along Bauchi-Dass road at about 2.30am on Saturday morning and murdered him.

Confirming the incident, the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, in a Post on its official Facebook page, said the deceased was a Chief Engineer in the Directorate of Physical Planning of the institution.

The post reads: “Inna Lillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun. Unknown gunmen killed one of our staff, Chief Engineer, Engr. Abubakar Garba Muhammad (Babangida Birshi) of Directorate of Physical Planning around 2:30am at his resident in Burshin Fulani.”

The statement indicated that his funeral (Jana’iza) prayer as announced by the family will hold this morning in Birshin Fulani Mosque, behind his house praying that “may Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul Jannatil Firdausi.”

Also, the Public Relations Unit of the Polytechnic, also confirmed the incident and described it as “most unfortunate.”

Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident to journalists.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, said the deceased was shot in the neck by the gunmen and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi where he was confirmed dead.

Wakil said: “Yes, I can confirm to you that unknown gunmen attacked Burshin Fulani and killed one man, Abubakar Garba Muhammad of the Federal Polytechnic.

“The late Muhammad came out of his house on a rescue mission after hearing noise of struggling of one of his sons with some people at the gate of the house. Immediately he came out, the gunmen shot and killed him.

“He was shot on the neck. Our men who rushed to the scene evacuated him to the Teaching Hospital where the medical team on duty certified him dead.

“Our patrol team stationed at the main gate of the Polytechnic on hearing gunshots from the direction at about 4am, quickly mobilized and rushed to the area. The gunmen who sighted the light of the patrol van of our men, fled.

“The Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Alabi, has directed that the Police should go after the gunmen, apprehend and bring them to justice.

“Our men are after them now and very soon, they will get to them.”
