August 03, (THEWILL) – Ahead of their opening Eredivisie match of the 2022/2023 season, Dutch champions, Ajax Amsterdam, have assigned new signing, Calvin Bassey, a shirt number while publishing the complete list of squad numbers for the first team players on their official website.
Bassey, a Nigerian international, will don jersey number 33. He moved to Ajax from Glasgow Rangers last month for a Rangers’ transfer record of £19.6 million. He debuted in a friendly against PSV Eindhoven last weekend.
The 22-year-old is unavailable for selection against Fortuna Sittard on August 6, and the first home game of the season against Groningen on August 14 because he has been suspended for two games after getting dismissed less than sixteen minutes after coming on against PSV.
The number 33 jersey has previously been worn by Przemyslaw Tyton, Dominik Kotarski, Konstantinos Lamprou, Diederik Boer, Jol Veltman, Vurnon Anita, Robbert Schilder, and Thomas Vermaelen for Ajax.
In the four games Bassey played for the Super Eagles this summer, he donned the number 21 shirt but was given the number 3 throughout his time at the Ibrox Stadium playing for Rangers.
