November 02, (THEWILL) – In an exciting match against Viktoria Plzen, Barcelona prevailed 4-2 to round off a challenging UEFA Champions League season.
With Inter Milan and Bayern Munich advancing to the knockout stages secured last week, the Blaugrana were already consigned to a spot in the Europa League before their last Group C meeting.
The only other victory for Barca in a disappointing UCL season came in the first leg against Plzen in September and, once again, Xavi Hernandez’s team put their disappointment behind them to win admirably at the Doosan Arena.
Marcos Alonso opened the scoring with an early goal before Ferran Torres followed with a brace. Even though Plzen responded with Tomas Chory’s double, Pablo Torre celebrated his first Barca start with a goal to end the match.
Both teams return to domestic football on Saturday, as Viktoria play hosts to Sparta Prague in the Czech 1. Liga, while Barca go against Almeria in La Liga.
