November 24, (THEWILL) – As the new year approaches, Barcelona is turning its attention away from fresh acquisitions and toward contract talks with its promising young core.
La Blaugrana have been particularly busy in recent transfer windows, bringing through their youth systems a number of excellent players in addition to signing 13 players in the last two seasons alone, including high-profile players like Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde. Now, they want to turn their emphasis in the near future to their youthful talents.
As a result, new contracts are expected to be offered to Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Alejandro Balde, and Inaki Pena. Gavi and Araujo have already signed new contracts in recent months, but La Blaugrana have been unable to register said new contracts due to their struggles to stay under the La Liga Financial Fairplay (FFP) threshold. Balde and Pena are currently in advanced contract negotiations with the club.
The Catalan club must come to an agreement regarding the mutual termination of Memphis Depay’s contract in order to register new contracts. It is also possible that Hector Bellerin is sold in January despite having only joined the club in the summer.
In order to attract additional revenue, the club is also considering alternatives for a shirt sleeve sponsor, with Cupra eager to take up that space.
