July 26, (THEWILL) – After four years of litigation, La Liga side Barcelona confirmed that they have settled the arbitration case with former Barca playmaker Neymar in an out-of-court settlement. THEWILL recalls that Neymar left the Catalan club in the summer of 2017 on a record-breaking $262 million move to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian winger claimed to have been owed unpaid signing bonuses from Barcelona and decided for a court resolution. The case was litigated in the intervening period until Barca decidedly reached a settlement with Neymar in an amicable fashion out of court.

The Camp Nou side issued a statement to that effect which said: “FC Barcelona announce that it has ended out of court in amicable fashion the various labour and civil litigation cases that were open with the Brazilian player Neymar da Silva Santos Junior.

“As such, a transactional agreement between the Club and the player has been signed to end the legal cases that were pending between the two parties: three claims related to labour and a civil case.”

In his earlier claim, Neymar stated that he and his father were entitled to $51 million as part of that agreement in the transfer contract. But, in June last year, a Catalan court ruled in Barcelona’s favour, ordering Neymar to pay his former club $8 million for legal expenses.

THEWILL recalls that the current PSG playmaker enjoyed a great spell at Barcelona. They formed a sensational striking trio of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and himself, and he won his only Champions League title in the 2015/2016 season after a thrilling campaign.

The Barca statement added: “Neymar was a Barca player between the seasons 2013/14 until 2016/17. Subsequently, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, the club where he currently plays.”

Since he left the Camp Nou, Neymar has been consistently linked with a return but rumours have it that a deal to bring him back in the past collapsed due to financial implications.

Neymar recently signed a contract with PSG and made it clear that he is happy with the former French champions. He has even gone as far as trying to recruit his friend and former teammate Messi to consider joining him on Paris in a move from the Catalan side to France.
