September 18, (THEWILL) – At least two persons have been reported killed and four abducted by bandits who attacked Tangaza town, Sokoto state on Friday.
Residents in the area said the bandits attacked the town after the evening prayers, shooting sporadically, killing a shop owner on the spot and a young girl who died in the hospital.
Three persons were injured and are receiving treatment while foodstuffs and drinks were carted away.
The residents said the timely intervention of security agencies alongside local vigilantes, who rescued one of the kidnapped victims, helped reduced the number of casualties.
About five children were kidnapped, but one was rescued after security personnel chased one of the bandits into the bush.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said only one person was killed and there was no abduction.
Recall that ongoing military operations in Zamfara state, as well as the closure of major markets in some states in the Northwest has reportedly negatively affected the bandits.
The bandits are rumoured to be regrouping around towns bordering Zamfara and Sokoto states for hit-and-run attacks on residents.
