April 20, (THEWILL) – Gunmen suspected to be bandits, have shot dead Alhaji Nasiru Magaji, one of the newly elected councillors in Gozaki town, Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Alhaji Magaji, popularly known as Nasiru B.S, was elected councillor in the recently held local government elections in the State.
He was shot in his residence and rushed to a hospital in Malumfashi, where he was confirmed dead.
A resident of Gozaki, Abdullahi Gozaki, said the gunmen who were about 10 in number also abducted the two wives of the slain councillor, but later released them.
“They attacked in the early hours of today (Wednesday) around 12:30 am, killed the councillor and abducted his two wives, but later sent them back home”, he said.
The attack was one of several others Katsina State has witnessed in recent times.
In one of the attacks, a boy between 10 and 12 years of age, simply identified as Usman, was killed.
There were reported incidents of kidnapping in the area last year, among which was that of the newlywed bride of an immigration officer.
They had also attacked the Dan Rimi area of Malumfashi, headquarters of Malumfashi local government, where two wives of a filling station manager were abducted.
The Bandits had also invaded Funtua. Witnesses said the armed men, said to be about 100, attacked Dutsen Reme around 11:00pm, where one Buhari Amadu (aka Buhari Michael), a member of staff of Bakori local government council, who operated as a vigilante, was shot dead.
