June 21, (THEWILL)- Embattled Nigerian actor, Baba Ijesha, will on Thursday be arraigned at an Ikeja Special Offences Court concerning allegations of sexual assault against him.
The movie star is scheduled to stand trial before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, as the case is among the issues listed for the day’s session.
THEWILL recalls that Baba Ijesha was arrested and detained by the Lagos police after he was alleged to have sexually molested a 14-year-old girl, who is a foster child to Comedian Princess.
Even after granted bail, he has remained in detention since then over his inability to meet the required conditions.
The development comes days after a Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos refused his bail application on the ground that the matter was already beyond its jurisdiction.
“I have carefully considered the application of the counsel to the defendant seeking bail for the defendant and the opposition by the counsel from the DPP,” P.E. Nwaka, the Judge, had stated on Wednesday. “Since there are indications that the matter is before the High Court and the Defendant will appear before the court, no bail can be given. The Defendant must be accorded full medical attention by the authorities pending his arraignment at the High Court.”
