November 27, (THEWILL) – The national chairman-designate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has debunked purported reports that his incoming National Working Committee (NWC) will probe past administrations of the party.
Ayu disclosed this in a statement seeking to clarify his comments bothering on an allegation raised by a former PDP national chairman, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, that over N11 billion, which he left in the party’s coffers, could not be accounted for after he was sacked from office shortly before the 2011 general elections.
Some media reports (not by THEWILL) had stated that Senator Ayu had pledged that his administration would scrutinise activities of past leaderships of the party with a view to enthroning a culture of accountability and transparency in the running of party affairs.
Ayu, in a statement to clarify his comments on the past financial dealings of the party, said he works with facts and not hearsay, adding that he has not seen the party’s books or received any handover notes.
He advised the general public to ignore the purported probe reports allegedly credited to him.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Media Office of the incoming National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has been drawn to numerous headlines in today’s dailies.
“They report Dr. Ayu as saying the incoming National Working Committee (NWC) of the party will probe past administrations of the party.
“Ayu maintains what he said during the presentation of the communique to the media that:
“He has not seen the books of the party or received any handover notes, and so cannot make any authoritative comment on any allegations.
“Dr. Ayu works with facts; not hearsay. And until we see the books, we can’t talk of probing anybody.
“The general public is, therefore, advised to ignore any reports to the contrary.”
