SAN FRANCISCO, January 21, (THEWILL) – A federal high court in Calabar Tuesday granted bail to Mr. Joseph Odok, a fierce critic of Cross Rivers State Governor, Ben Ayade, who was arrested last September in Abuja and transported to the state on allegations of cybercrime and terrorism.

Odok’s lawyer, Oliver Osang, confirmed the development to journalists.

The police had unsuccessfully moved to withdraw the charges against him but the court blocked it saying only the Attorney-General of the Federation could do it.

The police accused him of inciting communities in Cross River against one another and undermining security, which the police said, is punishable under The Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013. He also allegedly claimed that Ayade’s chief of staff, Martin Orim is a cultist.

Odok says he is innocent of the charges.
