BEVERLY HILLS, September 29, (THEWILL) – An FCT High Court has awarded N50 million against Senator Elisha Abbo, to be paid as compensation to Osimibibra Warmate, a female attendant at a sex-toy shop.

Justice Samira Bature gave the order on the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by Warmate against the senator.

Abbo, a senator representing Adamawa North, had on July 3, 2019 caught on camera physically assaulting Osimibibra Warmate at a sex-toy shop in Abuja, two months after he allegedly committed the act. In the video, Abbo was seen descending on her after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop owner whom the Senator had accused of calling him a drunk.

The viral video caught the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, who immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purported assault by Senator Abbo.

Also, the leadership of the Senate and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform under which the lawmaker was elected, both condemned the act and summoned the Senator.

While Senator Abbo publicly tendered an apology at a press conference on July 3 at the PDP headquarters in Abuja, the Police filed a one-count charge of assault against him at the FCT Magistrate court.

The court exonerated Abbo of assault; a development that made Warmate through her legal team to sue Senator Abbo in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed at the FCT High Court.
