AS FAR Stop Bayelsa Queens From Reaching CAF Women’s Champions League Final

November 10, (THEWILL) – Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens, were defeated 1-0 by AS FAR Women of Morocco, in the CAF Women’s Champions League semi-final match, with the Moroccans reaching their first ever final.

The Moroccan champions, who will trade tackles with Mamelodi Sundown Ladies in the final, defeated their Nigerian opponents, who were also seeking their first final, thanks to a goal from Ibtissam Jraidi in the first half.

Bayelsa Queens advanced to this stage of the competition by placing second in their group, behind the same Mamelodi Sundown Ladies, who are the defending champions, and ahead of TP Mazembe and Wadi Degla of Egypt.

The Nigerians made a valiant effort to tie the game, but Jraidi’s goal in the 27th minute was the only mark on the scoreboard. AS FAR succeeded in reaching the final, something they failed to do when they lost at this level of the competition previous year, by holding on to their narrow lead until the final whistle.

After failing to take their fairytale run to the final, Bayelsa Queens will now face Tanzania’s Simba Queens in Saturday’s third-place game.
