Arteta Reviews Arsenal’s Injury Worries With Midfield Shortage Ahead Of Man Utd Trip

September 02, (THEWILL) – Arsenal’s injury woes have snuck up on the team again, as Thomas Partey will be sidelined for “weeks” according to club manager, Mikel Arteta, while Mohamed Elneny will be out for “months.”

The Gunners have had a flawless start to the English Premier League season with five victories from five games, but they will be put to the test on Sunday, at Old Trafford, against Manchester United, who have won three straight games after a sluggish start.

With Albert Sambi Lokonga filling in for Partey in the middle of the park in the last encounter due to an injury, Arteta has had to deal with a problem in the middle of the park. Speaking about these problems at his press conference, Arteta said: “Ramsdale and Odegaard have been assessed and we will see more tomorrow. Hopefully, they’ll be available to train with the team.

“Alex [Zinchenko] missed two games and has not been able to train with the team yet. For Mo [Elneny], we are talking months. With Thomas [Partey], we are hopefully talking weeks and even shorter than that. We have tried to manage him. A lot has happened since he’s joined. We are trying the possible way to find reasons for that. Unfortunately, his body and mind are too difficult to try to put a finger on, to identify one factor. Attitude is there. He’s really disappointed and wants to get back.”

Arteta said that he may look to the academy for players to make the step after Arsenal tried to make a last-minute bid to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, but were unable to reach a deadline-day agreement.
